Milk Jugs Recycled Into Toys In San Leandro
Local factory makes "Green Toys" molded from recycled gallon milk jugs.
A San Leandro company has been featured as "Santa's workshop" in a story about Green Toys, a Mill Valley firm that makes plastic toys out of recycled gallon milk jugs.
The Christmas Eve story in the San Francisco Chronicle marvels about the fact that Green Toys actually makes its products in the Bay Area, when most of the toys sold in the U.S. are imported from China.

Green Toys is the design company that came up with the idea of turning recycled gallon milk jugs into a line of toys, selling from $15 to $25: trucks, tea sets, airplanes, salad bowls and so on.
These toys are made at KS Automotive at 14801 Catalina Street in San Leandro. KS is a contract manufacturing company that molds plastic parts for cars, pools, toys and other products.

KS had been a supplier to the NUMMI auto plant on Interstate 880 in Fremont until it closed.
Now KS is making environmentally friendly Green Toys that are sold through small toy stores and Whole Foods Markets among other outlets.
