Most Gas Under $4 Again

Many East Bay service stations are now selling a gallon of regular unleaded for $3.99 or less.

Gasoline for under $4 a gallon is no longer difficult to find.

A vast number of service stations in the East Bay are now selling a gallon of regular unleaded for $3.99 or less.

The price of gas dropped a few more pennies in the past week, marking the third week in a row the cost of gasoline has declined.

Nationwide, the average price for regular unleaded is $3.77 a gallon, two cents less than a week ago and 21 cents cheaper than a month ago, according to a California State Automobile Association website.

In California, a gallon of unleaded regular sells on average for $3.99, five cents lower than a week ago and 28 cents cheaper than a month ago.

In the East Bay, the average price is now $3.98 for a gallon of unleaded regular, five cents less than a week ago and 30 cents cheaper than a month ago.

Several stations in the region are selling gas for as low as $3.85 a gallon. One of them is Diablo Gas and Mart on Diablo Road in Danville.

Randy Felipe, a resident of Danville for the past 30 years, was filling up his 16-gallon truck on Monday afternoon. He said he usually buys fuel at Diablo Gas because it's the cheapest in town.

Felipe uses his truck for business, so the 30-cent drop in price the past month is a welcome relief.

"I'm very happy to see this," he said.

The Chevron and Shell stations nearby are selling regular unleaded for $3.99 a gallon.

That's a common price throughout the East Bay.

Almost every station in Dublin listed on a site overseen by mapquest shows unleaded regular for $3.99 a gallon. The one exception is the Union 76 station on Amador Valley Boulevard, which has a listed price of $3.85 a gallon.

San Leandro and Union City service stations are listed from $3.89 to $3.99 a gallon. 

In Castro Valley, the price ranges from $3.89 to $4.03 a gallon.

Gas stations in Walnut Creek are listed between $3.95 and $3.99 a gallon.
