SAN LEANDRO, CA — One theft suspect is dead and another is at a hospital after sheriff's deputies shot the two late Wednesday afternoon outside a store in unincorporated Alameda County, a sheriff's spokesman said.
Deputies responded at 4:40 p.m. to Thrift Town, a thrift store at 16160 E. 14th St. after someone reported a theft in progress, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson said.
Deputies contacted the suspects in a car and everything seemed to be going well when the driver put the vehicle in reverse at a high rate of speed toward the deputies.
