The shooting happened in San Leandro Tuesday.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A San Leandro man is dead as a result of an officer-involved shooting, San Leandro Police report.

Police received a call at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday about a "machete-wielding" man. He was also "exposing" himself to small children, according to a 911 call, police say. The man with the machete said that he "had intents to harm" police officers and would not cooperate if they came to his location, in the 600 block of Martin Drive, according to Police Lt. Isaac Benabou of SLPD.

Officers sent to investigate found a 56-year-old man with a machete. He did not cooperate with police and made a sudden move with an object, the size and shape of a gun, that later turn out was not a gun. However, the officer confronted in real-time only saw the threat, and fired a single gunshot at the man. He died of that gunshot at the scene.
