Police Chief Helps Nab Attempted Carjacking Suspect
Police say the 20-year-old man violently attacked an elderly woman.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — San Leandro Police Chief Jeff Tudor tracked down a man who attacked an elderly woman, violently pushed to the ground, and stole her car keys and wallet Tuesday morning, according to the police department.
The 20-year-old man from Oakland was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
The chief had just finished his morning workout when he was notified of an attempted carjacking that had just occurred.

Witnesses told Tudor that the suspect couldn't start the victim's car, so he ran off. The chief found him a few blocks away and coordinated arriving patrol officers in taking the suspect into custody.
"Moments after finishing his workout and making his way to get coffee for his staff, we are grateful that Chief Tudor was in the area and took swift action to apprehend the suspect," said Lt. Khan.

The victim, a San Leandro resident, was not injured during the attack.
