Poll: Is San Leandro No Town For Foodies?

Reader comment calls out San Leandro's eateries and groceries. What do you think? Leave a comment and vote in our poll.

(A recent story on the city's prompted one reader to lament the lack of restaurant and grocery options in San Leandro. That comment is republished below. Interestingly, an by city staff issued in December noted that restaurants are one area in which the city loses sales tax revenues because residents eat out here less than would be expected (see attached PDF). What do you think? Are we food-deprived? Scan the comment below, add your thoughts and vote in the poll.)

I don't shop local, and hardly eat local except for the handful of places like CreAsian, Paradiso, The Vine.

This city needs more restaurants, and good ones. Do we really need another burrito shop, Chipolte, when there are hundreds up and down East 14th Street? (Editor: this is a reference to project.)

I heard a comment once from a friend and it rang true, there is no "there" in San Leandro.

The only saving grace is the Downtown Farmers market, and that's only for the spring/summer.

I hope the mayor is reading.

We need some life sparked into this city, not just more low-income shopping and redundant businesses.

Think College Ave in Oakland. There are so many restaurants there and a variety.

Bring in an upscale grocery store, something.

I drive to either Trader Joes in Castro Valley or Berkeley Bowl. The grocery stores in San Leandro are disgusting and dirty, not places I care to bring food home from.

I say this over and over, the city needs to do something. I know I can't be the only resident that feels this way about San Leandro.
