San Leandro Appoints Chief Technology Officer
Tony Batalla has been promoted from within.
SAN LEANDRO, CA — The City of San Leandro has announced that Tony Batalla has been appointed as the Chief Technology Officer, a newly established position that will oversee the City's Innovation Office and Information Technology Division. Mr. Batalla, a San Leandro resident who grew up in the East Bay, has been serving as the Information Technology Manager since February 2014.
"We are excited Tony has accepted this new role and for his dedication to San Leandro's innovation efforts," noted City Manager Jeff Kay, who made the appointment. "I am positive Tony will help San Leandro drive the Smart City Strategies our City has committed to, and continue leveraging the use of technology to deliver innovative results."
"I am thrilled to lead the City's Innovation Office, while continuing the work I am doing in the IT Division," said Mr. Batalla. "There is a natural synergy between technology and innovation and this new responsibility will enable me to expand on the innovative work that has flourished in San Leandro."

Before transitioning to local government, Mr. Batalla was an IT engineer and manager in the private sector, including working as a consultant and for a global biotechnology firm. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of San Francisco, and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
