San Leandro Library to Host Lunar New Year Celebration

Mayor Pauline Russo Cutter and the San Leandro City Council announced today a reminder that the San Leandro Public Library will be welcoming the Year of the Sheep at the City’s annual Lunar New Year celebrations on Saturday, February 21, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The event will take place at the Main Library, located at 300 Estudillo Avenue in downtown San Leandro. Admission is free.

Immediately prior to the celebrations, Mayor Cutter will be on hand and available in Conference Room B, located on the second floor of the Main Library, beginning at 1:00 pm in order to meet with any community members who wish to ask questions, voice concerns, or provide feedback on any topics concerning city government.

“I encourage San Leandrans to join us at the City’s annual Lunar New Year celebrations, which will include crafts, beautiful music, exciting dancing, and many other festive activities,” stated Mayor Cutter. “Prior to the event, I also invite members of the public to join me for some conversation over a warm cup of tea. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and concerns about San Leandro, and answering any questions.”

The Lunar New Year celebrations will include performances designed to delight guests of all ages, and will showcase performers from the Korean Culture Center, dancers from the China Dance School of San Francisco and the lion dancers of Vovinam Viet-Do-Dao of San Jose. Free Asian craft-making sessions for children also will be hosted by the Asian Community Cultural Association of San Leandro. Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase.
