San Leandro Man Arrested For Attempted Murder

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A vicious attack outside a San Leandro convenience store left one man hospitalized and another in jail facing attempted murder charges.

Jermonta Cummings, 34, was arrested Oct. 4 at his home, according to police. Two days later, the Alameda County District Attorney charged Cummings with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated mayhem, police said.

The charges stemmed from an altercation outside the Quik Stop convenience store at 206 Marina Blvd. around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 2, according to police.

Cummings got into a fistfight with another man, allegedly stabbing him again and again, even as the man lay wounded, police said. Cummings fled before police arrived.

The victim was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Police discovered that the attack was captured on the store's surveillance cameras, and they soon identified Cummings and his place of residence, arresting him Oct. 4, according to police.

Cummings is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, police said.
