San Leandro Man Murdered: Accused Killer In Court
The accused killer is 18, and had meth and a concealed weapon on him when arrested, police report.
OAKLAND, CA —An 18-year-old man appeared in court on Wednesday on a charge of murder with special circumstances for the fatal shooting of a San Leandro man in Oakland last month.
Walter Calmoperez was charged on Tuesday for allegedly fatally shooting 22-year-old Sleyter Ramirez-Jimenez outside a house in the 2000 block of 22nd Avenue at about 11:55 p.m. on Jan. 19.
Calmoperez, who was arrested in the 2500 block of Havenscourt Boulevard in Oakland just after midnight on Saturday and is being held without bail at Glenn Dyer Jail in Oakland, was scheduled to enter a plea on Wednesday but postponed doing so until Thursday.

Calmoperez is charged with murder, the special circumstance of committing a murder during a drive-by shooting, shooting from a motor vehicle, shooting at an inhabited dwelling and carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle.
Witnesses identified Calmoperez as being the man who shot and killed Ramirez-Jimenez, Oakland police Sgt. Yun Zhou wrote in a probable cause statement.

When Calmoperez was arrested, officers found suspected methamphetamine and a loaded concealed firearm on him, according to Zhou.
A file check showed that the firearm had been stolen, Zhou wrote.A second suspect, 31-year-old Pablo Carrillo of Oakland, is also charged with murder in connection with Ramirez-Jimenez's death for allegedly driving Calmoperez to and from the fatal shooting.
Carrillo was arrested at his home in the 2600 block of 77th Avenue in East Oakland at about 5 a.m. Saturday, according to Zhou.
Carrillo, who is being held without bail, also appeared in court on Wednesday and is scheduled to return to court on Thursday to possibly enter a plea.
