San Leandro Police Help Hand Out 127 Tickets

Officers from 6 police agencies, including SLPD, patrolled areas in an adjacent city near schools or with lots of complaints.

NEWARK, CA — 127 tickets were handed out in Newark last Wednesday as the Newark Police Department Traffic Unit and several cooperating agencies conducted a High Impact Traffic Team detail, or HITT. San Leandro provided officers for the operation.

The HITT typically works together for 3 to 4 hours to focus on the primary factors that cause collisions, choosing areas near schools and other high complaint areas.

A total of 18 officers wrote the following tickets:

  • Speed violations: 75
  • Cell Phone violations: 18
  • Stop Sign violations: 9
  • Unlicensed / Suspended License: 7
  • Misc. violations: 10
  • Red Light violations: 1
  • Pedestrian violations: 3
  • Bicycle violations: 1
  • Turning violations: 3
  • Fail to yield to emergency vehicle violation: 1

The participating agencies were the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, Hayward Police Department, Newark Police Department, San Leandro Police Department, and Union City Police Department.
