San Leandro Student Awarded College Scholarship

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Haley Ali of San Leandro has been awarded a scholarship for Cell Biology studies at UC Davis. She is one of 18 students who received a total of $258,000 in scholarships from Youth on Course.
Youth on Course began as the charitable arm of the Northern California Golf Association. It has now expanded to 31 states and Canada, with a goal of reaching all 50 states.
Youth on Course provides youth with the opportunity to play hundreds of golf courses for $5 or less. They also have opportunities to caddie and serve internships, and to receive college scholarships.

“Support of our members in their pursuit of a college education continues to be the most rewarding thing we do all year,” says Michael Lowe, Vice President of Programs, Youth on Course, headquartered at Pebble Beach. “The day-to-day focus is to provide our members with access to affordable golf, but our core purpose of providing youth with access to life-changing opportunities shines through our scholarship program, as education has the power to transform society.”
This year's $258,000 in scholarships is the largest amount awarded by Youth on Course per student to date. Since the inception of the scholarship program in 2008, 240 students have received more than $1.6 million in financial support.

- Paul Lee of South San Francisco who is majoring in Hospitality Management & Mathematics at the University of Denver
- Sidney Leipsic of San Rafael who is majoring in Business Administration at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
- Craig Kenneth Malech of Turlock who is majoring in Mechanical Engineering at California State University, Long Beach
- Colin Stephen Raab of Redwood City who is majoring in Music Engineering Technology at the University of Miami, Frost School of Music
- Rodolfo Vega of Morgan Hill who is majoring in Criminal Justice at Texas State University
- Michael Wang of San Jose who is majoring in Computer Science at UC Berkeley
