SAN LEANDRO, CA - More than 100 students from San Leandro, Hayward and San Lorenzo were awarded over $25,000 in prizes in the 2016 Earth Day Poster Contest sponsored by the Oro Loma Sanitary District and Waste Management of Alameda County.
The theme was organics recycling, and students from kindergarten to seniors in high school helped develop new and interesting ways to illustrate the Oro Loma Sanitary District’s organic recycling rules.
Winners received cash prizes with matching monetary awards given to their schools. Judges selected first place ($700), second place ($500) and third place ($300) winners for each class group except kindergarten. There were also two honorable mentions ($150) and 10 certificates of merit ($25) from each group. Kindergartners with the five best posters each received Recycling Star Awards and $100.
