Sheriff's Deputy Involved in Crash in Ashland

The deputy was responding to an emergency call to assist another deputy who was involved in a fight with a suspect.

An Alameda County sheriff’s deputy suffered minor injuries when he crashed into another driver while responding to assist another deputy in Ashland, a California Highway Patrol officer said. The crash was reported at 2:51 p.m. at Liberty Street and 162nd Avenue in Ashland, an unincorporated area east of San Leandro, CHP officials said.

The deputy was responding to an emergency call to assist another deputy who was involved in a fight with a suspect, CHP Officer Dan Jacowitz said. The deputy was driving north on Liberty when his patrol car hit a green 2009 Honda CRV also headed north as the driver was turning left onto 162nd Avenue.

The deputy suffered minor injuries in the crash but was not taken to a hospital, Jacowitz said. The Honda’s driver, a 27-year-old Oakland man, was not injured. The CHP is investigating what led to the crash.
