Sights, Scents, Smiles Animate Farmers' Market
This year's first Wednesday evening downtown event is a crowd-pleaser.
The smell of roasting meat wafted across East 14th Street even before the Downtown Farmers' Market on Parrott Street came into view Wednesday evening.
There were balloons for the kids, fresh vegetables and fruits, an array of artisinal foods from dried nuts to olive oils, as well as food concessions with ready-to-eat treats.

The Downtown Farmers' Market is not about low-cost but high-fun, an excuse to get out and meet friends each Wednesday evening between 4 pm and 8 pm from now through October 17.
Like the Saturday morning farmers' market at Bayfair Center, the downtown event supports local food growers and producers.

But the cozier, shadier confines of Parrott Street lend the Wednesday evening gathering the feeling of a street fair.
If you're not one of the estimated 2,500 people who frequent the market on any given Wednesday, put it on your calendar to try some coming week.
