Social Justice Academy presents “Peace in the Streets”
At the end the day, everyone just wants to get home safely. Many people struggle trying to navigate this complicated world in a way that will keep them protected, secure, and alive. That person might be a student, a parent, a worker, or a law enforcement official.
For a community to be whole, it is necessary for members of the community, school administrators and staff, and law enforcement officers to work in solidarity. The first step in ensuring public safety and peace of mind is building trust. Most people would agree that there is a huge divide between youth and authority figures.
In turn, the senior class of the Social Justice Academy would like to address that divide in a public forum with the hopes that of healing the community.
The senior class of the Social Justice Academy has developed and coordinated an event titled “Peace in the Streets”. SJA seniors will be facilitating a panel discussion that includes community members, students, school staff, and officers in the San Leandro Police Department.
The student coordinators would like to shed light on the widening gap between today’s generation and adults in positions of power, and stress the importance of building relationships.
Their hope is that students will learn how to efficiently maneuver through such a complicated system. Everyone in attendance will have a chance to voice concerns, experiences, and insight in a structured and safe public forum. The main goal of the event is for everyone in attendance to think critically, be reflective, and find solutions in order to break down the walls that divide the community.
