Threats: San Leandro Football Game Postponed

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A football game planned for Friday between San Leandro High School and Oakland's McClymonds High School will be rescheduled due to safety concerns, school officials said.

School officials said the decision to reschedule the game was based on recommendations from the San Leandro Police Department.

The concerns stemmed from a threat, which appeared to be related to a conflict between people that weren't from either schools, according to school officials.

"Student safety is always our primary concern," San Leandro Unified School District Dr. Mike McLaughlin said in a statement.

"These decisions are incredibly difficult to make and I take police recommendations very seriously. I am pleased with the collaboration from Oakland Unified School District, Oakland Schools Police Department and San Leandro Police Department to make this game happen. We know how important these games are to these kids and their families," he said.

The game was originally scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday at Burrell Field in San Leandro.

The newly rescheduled game will not be open to the public, San Leandro High School officials said.

Additionally, they said details, like when and where the game will take place, will be kept under wraps "for safety reasons."
