Two Alarm Fire Causes Major Damage to San Leandro Home
Firefighters battled fallen power lines, the collapse of a floor, large flames and a fierce wind.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — A stubborn two-alarm fire this morning in a three-story home in unincorporated San Leandro was eventually extinguished, Alameda County fire officials said.
The fire in a hillside house at 16961 President Drive was knocked down at about 9:20 a.m. and was extinguished by about 10:40 a.m., fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
The fire was first reported at 8:37 a.m. Firefighters arrived and entered the home to find fire on the ground floor and the one below, Knowles said.

Firefighters at one point had to work from outside of the home because its floors were unstable. At least part of a floor collapsed, she said.

Extinguishing the fire was made difficult by fallen power lines, the collapse of the floor, large flames and a westerly wind that pushed the flames from the rear to the front of the home.
No injuries were reported, Knowles said. An occupant and her two dogs were able to escape before firefighters arrived. No other homes sustained damage.
Firefighters remained at the home this afternoon to put out any small fires that might start because of smoldering embers. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
