SAN LEANDRO, CA — Officers responding a burglary alarm Sunday night at a San Leandro marijuana dispensary shot and wounded two suspects trying to flee in a getaway car, police said.

The burglary was reported about 10:40 p.m. at SilverStreak, a cannabis dispensary and delivery service at 1915 Fairway Drive.

As officers responded, a neighboring business also called to report a burglary and said several suspects were running away with masks on, police said in a news release Monday morning.

When officers arrived, they spotted a suspect wearing a mask running away from SilverStreak and they tried to detain him, but he ran to a parked car with two other people inside.

Police said the suspect allegedly retrieved a handgun and an officer fired his weapon several times.

Two people were hit and taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
A third suspect was arrested at the scene, police said.

"When an officer uses their weapon to defend against an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury, the San Leandro Police Department takes these matters as a serious responsibility that must be carried out legally, and with respect for the sanctity of life," said San Leandro police Capt. Ali Khan.

The shooting will be investigated by San Leandro police as well as an outside independent investigator, Khan said.
