Two Suspects Shot In San Leandro: Officer Involved Shooting
The auto burglary suspects pulled a gun on Fremont detectives, police say. The suspects were shot by Fremont Police.

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Two auto burglary suspects were shot in San Leandro Thursday night when a gun was raised on Fremont Police detectives, according to San Leandro Police. One of the wounded suspects fled, prompting a shelter-in-place order that lasted for several hours. Both suspects are now in custody and the public is safe.
San Leandro Police issued the shelter-in-place order at 10:30 p.m. for residents between Hesperian, Washington, Upton and Floresta as they searched for the armed suspect. The order was lifted at 4 a.m.
The incident began with an auto burglary investigation by Fremont Police. Two suspects were tracked to the Bayfair Mall in San Leandro. Fremont Police contacted San Leandro Police, as the pair were about to burglarize vehicles outside a fitness center at the mall, police report. The suspects allegedly rammed multiple Fremont police vehicles, and fled. Fremont Police chased the suspects into a neighborhood, where one of the suspects raised a gun toward officers, SLPD reports.

Both suspects were shot. One was taken into custody immediately, while the other got away. That's when the shelter-in-place order was given. The San Leandro Police Department took the lead in the case, and both the CHP and Alameda County Sheriff's Office joined the manhunt.

Using a K9, officers found the suspect hiding in bushes behind a business. He was taken into custody.
Both suspects are in the hospital with gunshot wounds. When they recover, they will be transferred to jail.
While their names have not been released, both men have long criminal records, according to police.
No police officers or members of the public were injured.
