Doves on a tree branch, San Leandro, Calif. (Miyo Burnett)

SAN LEANDRO, CA — Miyo Burnett captured this photo of a pair of doves sitting in an oldSanta Rosa Plum tree in her yard. Miyo did some sleuthing on the doves and writes, "I thought these were a pair of some almost-resident Mourning Doves. BUT the black collar around the neck of each bird, and the plain coloring on the back feathers make me think these are two Eurasian Collared-Doves! (within their U.S. nation-wide territory.)"

She calls them a happy addition to her garden.

Beautiful! And now I know how to identify doves in my own backyard. Thank you, Miyo!
