But of the 18 people who did click a circle, about half indicated that going out for dinner and drinks was their activity of choice.

Just south of the San Leandro border, you can attend the Sons of Norway Corned Beef Dinner. The address is 1808 B Street in Hayward. Social hour starts at 6 p.m. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. with corned beef, cabbage, buttered carrots, potatoes and soda bread. Irish coffee will be served along with Irish entertainment. If you'd prefer to drive north, there may still be seats at the Irish Social at Msgr. O'Brien Hall, in the St. Philip Neri Parish at 3101 Van Buren St., Alameda. Social hour starts at 6 p.m. The dinner, featuring corned beef and cabbage and all the trimmings, begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $12 for children 12 years and younger. But call ahead to JoAnn Dorn at 510-710-6959 because they were accepting reservation and could be sold out.

In the satisfy-the-kids-cheaply-department, is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday and Sunday by offering free fries accompanied by green ketchup. The special starts anytime after 10 am, while supplies last, according to an advertisement.

It's looking like stormy weather Saturday, but there's always good cheer to be had at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in San Francisco, which begins 11 am -- rain or shine -- at Second Street and Market close to BART. If you do attend, look for the Assumption School Honor Band that is marching in the parade.

And if you drink too much and don't have a designated driver, AAA is offering a "tipsy tow" service from 6pm on St. Patrick’s Day until 6am the next morning. Call (800) 222-4357 (AAA-HELP) and tell the operator “I need a Tipsy Tow” for a free tow of up to five miles.
