Woman Stabbed by Ex-Boyfriend in Critical Condition

A woman who was stabbed Friday afternoon by her ex-boyfriend is in critical condition. The suspect was arrested early Saturday morning by Hayward police on an unrelated charge. 

The  got a call from the victim about 1 p.m. on Feb. 4. She said she had been stabbed.

Officers found her in the parking lot of the Cabot Bay apartment complex between East 14th Street and Bancroft Avenue, across from . 

The victim was taken to Highland Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. She's now in critical condition, according to a news release from the San Leandro Police Department.

The suspect, David Welch, 29, of Oakland, fled the scene in a car driven by Monisha Johnson, 22, also of Oakland.

Welch was arrested about 1 a.m. Saturday by officers from the Hayward Police Department on an unrelated charge of resisting arrest. He was handed over to the San Leandro Police Department. 

Jonson was arrested Saturday by San Leandro police on suspicion of concealing, aiding, and harboring a subject who had committed a felony, according to the police. 

Welch and Johnson are scheduled to be arraigned in Hayward Superior Court on Monday. 

Police reported that the victim and Welch had gotten into an argument. Welch armed himself with an 8-inch serrated knife and stabbed the victim in the chest, puncturing her heart.

In other weekend crime news, police were called to the 1300 block of Hubbard Avenue on Saturday afternoon by two victims who said a suspect was brandishing a shotgun at them.

Police arrived and took the suspect into custody. A search revealed that the suspect did indeed have a shotgun, police said.
