SAN MARINO, CA — A routine traffic stop resulted in police discovering a severely injured shooting victim in the trunk of a car in the San Gabriel Valley, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
An officer from the San Marino Police Department stopped an older Ford sedan around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at Los Robles Avenue and Monterey Road for a vehicle code violation, the sheriff’s department said in an advisory.
As the officer exited the patrol vehicle, the driver of the car ran east from the scene, according to the sheriff’s department, which added that a man in the front passenger seat was detained and identified as a person of interest.
In the trunk was a man suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso, the advisory said, adding he was taken to a local hospital and was in critical condition with death considered imminent.
Authorities searched for the man who fled but did not find him, according to the sheriff’s department.
