Updated: Christmas Around the Drive Postponed Due to Weather

Christmas Around the Drive, a large and cherished San Marino tradition scheduled for Friday night, has been postponed until further notice due to high winds and resulting power outages.

Powerful winds have now put off an appearance from Santa, since the festive San Marino event --originally scheduled for Friday night--has been postponed until further notice, San Marino City Manager Matt Ballantyne told Patch Thursday night.

The San Marino Chamber of Commerce sent out this update early Friday afternoon:

"Please stay tuned for details as to whether the event will be re-scheduled.  You will each be contacted by the Chamber in the next several days as to whether or not your business would like to participate in a re-scheduled event for next Friday, December 9th."

Patch contacted the San Marino Chamber of Commerce earlier Thursday to inquire about the fate of the event in light of , but did not receive a reply. At approximately 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Ballantyne contacted Patch to say he had just received word of the postponement.

Christmas Around the Drive is an annual event sponsored by the in which many of the Huntington Drive merchants stay open later and offer Christmas crafts and treats. Santa usually arrives on the old No. 1 fire engine from the and a long line of children forms to meet him.
