Local Author C.B. Shiepe Releases Greeting Card Line
Share the beyond the falls experience with Cliff Falls greeting cards.
Local author, , and businesswoman, Jo Lynn Bolton, have teamed up for a line of greeting cards inspired by Shiepe's inspirational novel, Cliff Falls.
The greeting card line, entitled "Beyond the Falls," is available at . The hand-painted blank cards feature quotes from the bestselling novel.
"I realized early on that people didn't just talk about the story, they quoted passages that spoke to them in a deeply personal way," said Shiepe. "I think Jo Lynn also experienced this when the novel started selling out at San Marino Stationers. I know she was also personally inspired by the novel, so she used her amazing creative gifts to create these original hand-painted designs. They are just so beautiful."
Shiepe selected the quotes for the greeting cards after speaking to fans of his book and discovering the passages they found particularly moving. Bolton paired Shiepe's quotes with her own watercolor designs.
"Speaking as many places as I have, you get a sense which passages are 'the ones,'" said Shiepe. "People love to come up and show me ear-marked pages and passages circled in pencil. Some are deep, some are more motivational, each reflect a truth about life and the human condition."
The cards have been on sale at San Marino Stationers for approximately one month and have already sold three to four dozen copies.
"The novel is still doing fabulously well," said Bolton. "The cards just seemed like the right next step to make."
In addition to its local success, Cliff Falls quickly became one of Vroman's Bookstore's bestsellers and was selected as Arcadia's "One Community, One Book," in October.
"Much like the novel becoming a best seller, the response to the cards has been surprisingly strong," said Shiepe. "Many people buy them just to remind themselves about a truth reflected in the passages. They frame them or just stick them on their dresser mirror."
Shiepe's favorite card is a bamboo design with the passage, "The only words that matter are the ones that flow through the cracks in our spirit, through the breaches in our resolve."
"It's just a perfect marriage of a powerful quote and beautiful design," Shiepe said.
