SAN MARINO, CA — San Marino High School was on lockdown Monday morning while police investigated a threat of a shooting made against a student at the school.

By 11 a.m., authorities determined no existing threat at the school, and one person was detained on suspicion of making criminal threats, according to the San Marino Police Department.

"No other subjects or suspects are involved," police announced. "The SMPD has determined that it is safe for school to resume. SMHS students should return to campus for 4th period, which begins at 11:10 a.m."

"SMPD Chief John Incontro communicated with Interim Superintendent Loren Kleinrock and other district administrators and determined that the threat was credible enough to be investigated. After investigation, it was determined that there is no existing threat. One subject was taken into custody for criminal threats ... No other subjects or suspects are involved. The SMPD has determined that it is safe for school to resume," according to the school.

Students and staff had been advised to shelter in place, and police were on campus investigating the threat. Though a threat was originally identified by the FBI, there was no shooting, and there have been no injuries, the San Marino Police Department confirmed to Patch.

According to school officials, authorities are working to determine the credibility of the threat.

"The department contacted San Marino Unified School District and consulted with their senior staff," according to a police statement released around 9 a.m. "A decision was made to cancel classes and close the high school until further notice. The threat was directed toward a student and not to another school within the (school) district or outside of the city of San Marino. We are working with the school district and other agencies to resolve this incident as quickly as possible."

The threat was received before the start of classes early Monday morning, and students not already on campus were urged to remain at home, the school's website said.

"There are incorrect rumors going around that there is an active shooter at the high school," the school said in statement posted about 9 a.m.

"There is no shooter on campus...There has been no threat made against any other school and the SMPD has advised that other district schools can be open as usual," the statement said.
