San Marino USD Team bring home the "GOLD"
San Marino Unified School District Ranked #1 in the State of California released 2016 CAASPP out of over 400 unified school districts.
At a press conference on Wednesday, August 24th at the San Marino Unified School board room, "We couldn't be more proud of our students. It was a total team effort. Our teachers worked so hard this past year long with our administration and staff. We have so much support from our parents and community members. This is truly an amazing accomplishment and something the entire community of San Marino should celebrate" said Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss.
Steve Choi, SMUSD Chef Technology Officer explain to the press that our students took the test last spring. This is the second year of the new CAASPP testing since the implementation of Common Core, which is a computer adaptive standardized test administered to all students in grad 3-8 and 11th grade. Similar to the previous Academic Performance Index (API) which SMUSD also ranked top scores for 12 years on the roll.
The 2016 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) comes with four levels of performance: Exceeding Standards, Met Standards, Below Standards and Far Below Standards. SMUSD is at the 90% meeting & exceeding standards in both ELA & Math.

SMUSD not only stay in #1 the second consecutive but also with growth by over 5% from last year. "It's extremely difficult once you reach at the high level to improve...It's simply amazing that we continue to remain the number one school district and demonstrate growth at the same time." said Nam Jack, SMUSD board president, "This marvelous success is directly attributable to the dedicated efforts of our school community as a whole...collectively we strive to provide an optimal learning environment for our students...so they can be engage, empower and find their interest or passion, our tasks are preparing them to be a life long learner, critical thinker and problem solver...".
The message is clear, it's really takes a village to raise a child and our San Marino community reminds us all one of the most profound qualities that define the human race: "together, we can do great things."
