6 Questions for a San Marino Local: SMHS Alumni President Page Haralambos

President of the San Marino High School Alumni Association takes on the San Marino Six.

Page Haralambos and her husband Tom graduated from just one year apart – but that doesn’t mean the two were high school sweethearts.

“Everyone thinks that we were high school sweethearts but we weren’t,” said Haralambos. “We got together after college. We knew each other, but we did not date in high school."

The couple grew up in San Marino and decided to move back to the area in 1993 to raise their three boys.

Haralambos, who graduated from San Marino High School in 1974, was always very involved with her class reunions. Shortly after her twentieth reunion in 1994, Haralambos took on presidential duties for the San Marino High School Alumni Association.

“The alumni association had only been in existence for about three years before I became president,” said Haralambos. “I’ve been the president since 1995.”

The alumni association hosts 55 years of San Marino High School classes within its lengthy database. The board is composed of eight members.

As part of her presidential duties, Haralambos maintains the alumni database, updates class lists, sends out mailers and helps keep everyone in touch. “I basically do anything related to alumni matters,” Haralambos said.

The local mom believes the high school is a close-knit community because of the small class size.

“San Marino is such a small community and so many of the alums have gone to school together since kindergarten,” said Haralambos. “It’s almost like a private school. You literally have your entire childhood development and childhood experiences with the same people.”

Haralambos took time out of her schedule to take on the San Marino Six.

What do you like most about San Marino?

The closeness of the community.

What is your favorite restaurant in San Marino?

I can’t do that! I have several friends that own restaurants and I am going to really get in trouble if I say one and not the other. I love them and frequent them all.

What is your favorite place in San Marino to take a stroll or go for a run?

I walk through the neighborhoods and I typically start off at my house and then head up to and then to Virginia Road and come back down. I guess I would say I love to walk through the northern part of San Marino.

What is a little known fact about you?

My husband Tom and I were not high school sweethearts because everyone thinks we were.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Mint chocolate.

What is your favorite memory of San Marino High School?

That is so tough. I would say Rivalry Day, football games and dances after football games. There is no specific memory – there is just a whole package.
