SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Police conducted 85 traffic stops in a safety operation Tuesday that resulted in 80 citations being issued, mostly for speaking on the phone or texting while driving.
On Tuesday, multiple law enforcement agencies coordinated with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office to participate in the saturation traffic enforcement program, which aims to increase traffic safety and awareness in known trouble spots throughout the county.

Deputies and officers made 85 traffic stops and issued 80 citations. Of the citations issued, 43 were for speaking on the phone or texting while driving, 19 were issued for miscellaneous violations, 15 were for failing to stop at a stop sign, eight were for unsafe speed, one was for failure to obey a sign/traffic control device, one was for an unlicensed driver, and one was for seatbelt and car seat violations, police said.
