SAN MATEO, CA — Two men were sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2020 revenge killing of a Bay Area rapper, whose 2-year-old son was also wounded in the shooting.
Ueta Muasika, who performed as Juice Boi,was shot to death outside his San Mateo home on Oct. 30, 2020, police said.
His son survived after being struck in the face, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.
Authorities said John Paasi and co-defendant Isileli Mahe drove to Muasika's home and fired 14 rounds at him and his son.
Prosecutors said the killing was retaliation for a 2019 arson that killed the Paasi's grandmother. Investigators said Muasika's cousin had set the fire while targeting rival gang members.
A jury convicted both men in March of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of lying in wait, requiring life without parole.
Mahe was sentenced to life without parole plus six years, while Paasi received life without parole plus 12 years.
