SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — An 18-year-old regained consciousness before first responders arrived after bystanders performed CPR when the teen was pulled from the water Sunday evening at San Gregorio State Beach, authorities said.
The teen had been submerged for at least two minutes in the lagoon area of the beach and was found unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing, according to Cal Fire CZU.
Bystanders called 911 and immediately began CPR, restoring the teen's breathing and consciousness before emergency crews reached the scene, officials said.
Cal Fire, Coastside Fire Protection District, San Mateo County Fire, the La Honda Volunteer Fire Brigade, American Medical Response, California State Parks and REACH Air Medical Services responded. The individual was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
