Hillsdale Boulevard and W. Sailor Drive uncovered a loaded firearm and packaged narcotics. He was booked into San Mateo County Jail on multiple drug- and gun-related charges. Officers are urging San Mateo residents to report suspicious people, vehicles, or activity and to trust their instincts.
2. From Aging Trailers To New Homes: Low-Interest Loans Open Door To Homeownership In SMC (patch.com) — San Mateo County is expanding a low-interest loan program that helps residents of seven unincorporated mobile home parks, including North Fair Oaks, replace aging trailers with new manufactured homes with no down payment. With millions already committed and more funding sought, qualifying lower-income families can secure safer, more stable housing while keeping monthly payments relatively low.
3. Chan Zuckerberg Initiative announces 2026 Community Fund grantees (inmenlo.com) — Nonprofits serving San Mateo County, including groups focused on housing, education, healthcare, and youth programs, have been selected as 2026 grantees of the Chan Zuckerberg Community Fund. Several organizations working directly in and around San Mateo will receive support to expand services, from after-school help and college readiness to food assistance and small-business support.
4. Hillsdale vs Menlo-Atherton (maxpreps.com) — Hillsdale High's volleyball team from San Mateo shut out visiting Menlo-Atherton 2-0, improving the Knights' record to 7-2 and keeping local momentum strong. Hillsdale now heads into a Peninsula-Bay matchup at Half Moon Bay on Tuesday, while Menlo-Atherton prepares to face Carlmont in Belmont.
5. California 'home sales and prices rise.' Where to find homes for as low as $270K (sacbee.com) — San Mateo County now tops California's home prices, with a median single-family home cost of about $2.25 million, far above the statewide median of $901,420. A new report from the California Association of Realtors shows sales and prices rising despite mortgage rates hovering around 7%. It also highlights which more affordable counties still offer homes near or below $400,000.
