SAN MATEO, CA — A traffic stop in San Mateo led to the arrest of an Oakland man after officers said they found a loaded firearm, cocaine and other suspected drugs inside his car Saturday.
San Mateo police Crime Reduction Unit officers stopped the vehicle around 3:36 p.m. Sept. 10 near West Hillsdale Boulevard and West Sailor Drive after witnessing license plate and cellphone violations, according to police.
The driver and sole occupant, Gregory Gamble Jr., 32, was contacted by officers, who said they smelled cannabis coming from the vehicle and saw loose cannabis in the center console.
A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded 28mm firearm, individually packaged cocaine, individually packaged cannabis and additional narcotics, police said.
Gamble was arrested on charges including transporting or selling a controlled substance, possessing drugs for sale, possessing a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle and possessing marijuana for sale.
He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
