Today's riddle: Who's in favor of bringing back Roman Numerals? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Community Mourns Football Player In San Mateo After Fatal Highway Crash (patch.com) — San Mateo readers are grieving alongside the College of San Mateo football community after 19-year-old freshman defensive back Ja'Marion "Pop" Grace died in a Highway 101 crash hours after playing in a Bulldogs win. A San Mateo driver and another CSM student-athlete were also injured, while teammates, the college and a GoFundMe organizer highlight Grace's energy, kindness and lasting impact on the Bulldog family.
2. Tesla crash video reignites Highway 84 safety concerns (nbcbayarea.com) — San Mateo County officials are ramping up safety efforts on Highways 84 and 35 after a high‑speed Tesla crash near La Honda renewed long‑standing concerns about reckless driving. Leaders are pushing for extra CHP weekend patrols and exploring inclusion in California's speed‑camera pilot program, while urging car clubs to stop treating local mountain roads like racetracks.
3. Kevin Mullin requests $75M in San Mateo County water infrastructure funding (house.gov) — Major federal water funding for San Mateo County is a step closer, with Rep. Kevin Mullin's $75 million authorization request clearing the U.S. House. Projects would bolster storage, pumps, stormwater and sewage systems, and a new recycling facility, improving flood protection and climate resilience for shoreline communities from East Palo Alto to Redwood City.
4. Mullin & Kaptur Introduce the Sunlight on SuperPACs Act (house.gov) — From San Mateo, Rep. Kevin Mullin is pushing new federal legislation to force SuperPAC-funded political ads to list their top three donors and amounts right in the ad. Supporters say this Sunlight on SuperPACs Act would give voters clearer, real‑time information about who's financing campaign messages before they head to the polls.
