MARIN COUNTY, CA — One person is reported dead in a crash this morning on northbound U.S. Highway 101.
The collision, involving a big-rig truck and at least one other vehicle, happened near the intersection with State Highway 12.
Drivers faced major delays after the collision shut down all northbound lanes, prompting authorities to issue a severe traffic alert and urge motorists to avoid the area.
All northbound lanes were blocked as emergency crews responded to the scene. Authorities have not released information about injuries or the number of vehicles involved.
The closure quickly backed up traffic through the area, creating significant delays for commuters traveling through Santa Rosa, according to authorities.
CHP advised drivers to use alternate routes and avoid the highway corridor until the roadway reopens. Officials have not provided an estimated time for when that will happen.
Motorists traveling through central Sonoma County should expect heavy congestion and seek alternate routes where possible.
