SAN RAFAEL, CA — An armed man was arrested Monday after San Rafael police stopped a vehicle reported stolen from the Sacramento area, police said.
Around 1:30 p.m., officers located the stolen vehicle on Belvedere Street and conducted a traffic stop.
As the driver got out, officers saw a handgun tucked into his waistband, according to the San Rafael Police Department.
Police said officers used verbal commands to safely take the suspect into custody without incident.
The handgun was loaded and determined to be unregistered, police said.
The suspect was booked into the Marin County Jail on felony charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, carrying a concealed loaded handgun, carrying a concealed loaded handgun in a vehicle and possessing an unregistered handgun, police said.
A passenger was detained but later released after investigators determined the person was unaware the vehicle had been stolen.
