Crews brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes, preventing it from spreading into the home.

The two residents safely evacuated and no injuries were reported, officials s.

Firefighters said the owner had started the 1984 DMC DeLorean when he noticed fumes and realized the engine compartment was on fire, according to a report by Bay City News.

In a press release, the fire department used the incident to remind homeowners about the importance of fire-resistant barriers between attached garages and living spaces, which can help slow the spread of fire and smoke into a home.

The DeLorean is best known as the time machine in the "Back to the Future" films. The stainless-steel sports car, recognizable by its gull-wing doors, was produced in the early 1980s, with fewer than 7,000 sold to customers before the company ceased operations.
