MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin County is seeking residents and workers to serve on three committees that help determine how housing and community funds are distributed across the county.
The application period opens Monday and runs through 5 p.m. Oct. 23 for the Countywide Priority Setting Committee, Measure W Working Group and Measure W Oversight Committee.
The Countywide Priority Setting Committee has two openings, including one for the Ross Valley area and one for Southern Marin.
Members recommend how federal and state funds should be distributed for affordable housing, community infrastructure and services for low- and moderate-income households.
The committee typically meets four evenings a year for about two hours.
The two Measure W committees focus on West Marin. Measure W, approved by voters in 2018, increased the transient occupancy tax on West Marin hotels and short-term rentals from 10% to 14%.
The tax generates about $1.2 million annually. Roughly half goes toward housing projects, while the other half supports fire and emergency services.
The Measure W Working Group reviews housing needs and recommends funding priorities to the Board of Supervisors. The Oversight Committee reviews the annual tax audit to ensure the money is spent within the designated area and for voter-approved purposes.
The county is particularly encouraging people from underrepresented backgrounds, racial and ethnic minorities and people with disabilities to apply.
