SAN RAFAEL, CA — A 27-year-old San Rafael resident who died after being stabbed during a dispute with a coworker has been identified Thursday, authorities said.
The Marin County Sheriff's Office Coroner's Division identified Mathew Lambdin, 27, of San Rafael as the man who died Monday.
Justin Amilcar Gutierrez-Navarette, 20, of Richmond, was arrested Monday on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing at a business in San Rafael's Northgate One Shopping Center, according to the San Rafael Police Department.
Shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, police and firefighters responded to the 700 block of Las Gallinas Avenue after receiving a report of an unconscious man who appeared to have fallen.
First responders found Lambdin with an apparent stab wound and began lifesaving measures before taking him to a hospital, where he died, police said.
Investigators determined that Lambdin and Gutierrez-Navarette were coworkers involved in an ongoing dispute. The dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Gutierrez-Navarette stabbed Lambdin, according to police.
Lambdin fled through the rear entrance of the business and collapsed outside on Las Gallinas Avenue, authorities said.
After the investigation began, Gutierrez-Navarette contacted police and arranged to turn himself in. He cooperated with detectives and was interviewed about his involvement in the incident, police said.
He was booked into the Marin County Jail on a murder charge, police said.
