Officers responded to Franklin and Pine streets just after 5 a.m. after a driver hit a man riding a motorized scooter and then fled the scene, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

Officers rendered aid and tried to save the man's life, but he died after being taken to a hospital, police said.

Investigators identified Daniel Llama, 39, as a suspect in the crash and took him into custody Thursday on suspicion of hit and run collision resulting in death and vehicular manslaughter, police said.

Llama's vehicle was towed as part of the investigation, police said.

Police ask that anyone with more information contact the San Francisco Police Department at 415-575-4444.
