California Indian Basket Making Class
Learn how to weave a Traditional California Indian basket with Native instructor Eva Salazar

Local Native California Indian tribes are renowned for their excellent basket making artistry. In this class Native California basket maker Eva Salazar will offer a well-rounded knowledge of the basket-making process for a Kumeyaay coiled willow basket including the spiritual beliefs surrounding it. Students will have the opportunity to create their very own basket.
You will learn about California weaving traditions, plant cultivation, harvesting, processing and the variety of styles applied. Discussion will revolve around the ethics of the stewardship of nature, the principles of regenerative land management, and the spiritual practices of Native people.
The class is on Saturday & Sunday, April 18 & 19, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Kule Loklo, a reconstructed Miwok village in Point Reyes National Seashore.
