$15K Of Camping Gear Stolen From San Ramon Boy Scout Troop
A San Ramon Boy Scout troop says it can no longer continue its camping experience, which is "at the core of our scouting experience."
SAN RAMON, CA — A San Ramon Boy Scout troop is worried its camping program won’t be able to continue after thieves stole the trailer containing all their camping equipment over Thanksgiving.
“Thieves stole our trailer with all of our camping equipment, tents, stoves, cookware, and other supplies from the church parking lot where we store it,” parents of BSA Troop 1776 explained in a GoFundMe post. “The trailer and its contents were worth over $15,000, and we have no insurance to cover the theft. This means that we have lost everything that we need to continue our camping program, which is at the core of our scouting experience.”
Troop Master Xeno Rassmuson told KTVU and NBC Bay Area that the scouts spent a lot of time building this equipment, and will eventually need to start over.

The trailer was located outside the Church of the Valley, but Rasmusson told KTVU that police have no evidence of it coming in or out. He suspects thieves swapped the license plate so it would not be detectable by license plate readers, and did it at a time when timed security cameras were turned off.
As of Tuesday, the troop has raised $6,838 of its $20,000 goal.
