SAN RAMON, CA — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal multi-car collision that took place Monday afternoon on Dublin Boulevard near H Mart.
Michael Bertalan, 45, of San Ramon, died after his car was struck from behind by a Lexus ES 350 traveling at a high rate of speed, according to reports from Bay City News and the Bay Area News Group citing the coroner. Patch has reached out to the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau for further information.
According to police reports, Bertalan was in the right-turn lane of westbound Dublin Boulevard when he was struck by the Lexus, which investigators say did not brake before impact. This caused a chain reaction that disabled all five vehicles involved. Emergency crews performed life-saving measures, while Alameda County firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate the two occupants of Bertalan’s car.
Bertalan was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Two others remain in critical condition, Dublin police said.
Westbound Dublin Boulevard was closed from Golden Gate Drive to Regional Street until around 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Police continue to investigate. They currently do not believe alcohol or drug intoxication do not appear to be factors in the collision.
