SAN RAMON, CA — San Ramon welcomed Heritage Park, a new 1.4-acre park at Bishop Ranch with a playground, lawn, garden, and art installation.
The park is anchored by the Little Big House, a large installation shaped like a house that people can walk through and spend time in. Created by artists Roberto Behar and Rosario Marquardt of R&R Studios, the Little Big House is the first of several more site-specific, permanent installations to come. It is part of a $20 million public art program funded by Sunset Development Corporation.
“Our vision was to create a social sculpture where stories take shape and imagination meets everyday life,” artist Roberto Behar said in a statement. “The Little Big House blurs the boundaries between the familiar and the fantastical, the real and the utopian, creating a shared space for play, belonging and coming together.”
Heritage Park is the first completed park within a larger plan to create 50 acres of parks and open space in Bishop Ranch. In addition to the Little Big House, the park also offers a tree-lined promenade, an expansive lawn, a shaded picnic grove, a kids' climbing obstacle course, garden spaces, and a tribute honoring San Ramon's civic leaders.
“Heritage Park represents the very best of San Ramon — thoughtful design, a commitment to public spaces and a place where our community can come together,” San Ramon Mayor Mark Armstrong said in a statement. “This park will serve residents of all ages, offering opportunities to connect, play and enjoy the outdoors in the heart of Bishop Ranch. It is also a great example of what’s possible when public vision and private investment come together to create vibrant spaces that benefit the entire community.”
