Cal High Varsity Song Team attended the National Dance Team Championships sponsored by UDA in Orlando, Florida. They performed February 2nd & 3rd at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disneyworld. The Cal High team consistently places in the Finals for their Small Group Pom division, but for the 4th year in a row, they also placed in the Finals for Small Group Jazz. After an exhausting 2-day competition, with Sunday starting at 5:00am, the Cal High Varsity Song team ranked #8 for their Small Group Pom and #13 for Small Group Jazz. This was out of nearly 100 high school teams nationwide!
The team was extremely happy with their placement. They began their 17 hour day at the Sports Complex with a sick and injured team. One of the star “turners” seriously injured her foot at the Friday night parking lot practice, and her injury never had a chance to heal during the trip. Three other dancers were very sick, and one began her Sunday with a high fever. Though the team was limping & dragging themselves backstage to stretch before their performance, they never showed any sign of weakness on stage. I am so impressed with their level of determination, self-motivation, and professionalism.
Congratulations to the 12 dancers on the Cal High Varsity Song Team and their coach, Toneka Webb!! Well done!
