On Wednesday morning, November 29, Assistance League® Diablo Valley Community Partners Chair Linda Mercer again welcomed Walnut Creek Rotarians. Organized by Carolina Alas, former Assistance League Diablo Valley Advisory Council member, 12 game changers reported to the chapter offices in Walnut Creek to unpack crates of food and transfer the contents to food boxes designated for recipient families in Contra Costa County.

Food Boxes Chairman Janet Venturino then explained to the volunteers that the Food Boxes program offsets end-of-the-month shortages for families. Ms. Venturino also explained that each filled food box contained $65 worth of such nutritious items as hearty soup, beans, applesauce, pineapple slices, potato buds, sweet corn and pancake/waffle mix. Funding came from Assistance League Diablo Valley Thrift Shop, Lafayette.

The next phase involved CalWORKs personnel, who loaded the filled boxes and transported them to a county distribution center. The entire effort reaches beyond putting food on the table; it reflects Caring and Commitment; it reflects a hang in there message delivered without judgment.
