To be eligible to run for the Board of Directors, a candidate must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and be a registered voter residing within the District’s boundaries. DRSRD Directors are elected in November of even-numbered years. The office is nonpartisan, and currently, there are five directors-at-large, representing all citizens within the District’s service area.
However, the District is transitioning from at-large to division-based elections under the requirements of the California Voting Rights Act. DSRSD has been divided into five separate election areas, known as divisions, and voters residing in each division will select one representative to serve on the Board. Directors representing Divisions 1, 3, and 5 will be elected in November 2020. The two remaining Directors, whose seats are up for election in 2022, will continue to serve “at large” until their terms expire at the end of 2022. In the November 2022 election, Directors will be elected from Divisions 2 and 4.
Interested candidates can learn how to file and obtain more information from the DSRSD Elections webpage and the DSRSD policy regarding Candidate’s Statement Costs.
