Car Crashes into Vacant Building in Market Place Shopping Center

Firefighters were able to rescue the driver, who was trapped inside the car.

A 70-year-old driver was trapped inside her car after crashing into a vacant building in San Ramon on Thursday, San Ramon Police Lieutenant Denton Carlson said.

“The vehicle was driven into a vacant office building on Montgomery St. in the Market Place shopping and business area,” Carlson told Patch. “Initially, the driver was trapped inside but was safely removed by San Ramon Valley Fire Department personnel and was medically cleared at the scene.”

According to Carlson, the incident is still under investigation.

“Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factor in the cause of the collision,” Carlson said. “The driver was not issued a citation but a request for reexamination was submitted to the Department of Motor Vehicles.”

On Oct. 2, a driver was injured after her car crashed into Primary Eyecare Optometics in Castro Valley. In Livermore, an 80-year-old woman mistook the gas pedal for the brake accelerated into a gym hitting an exercise classroom, fatally injuring Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory executive Kathy Baker and injuring five others.
