Chevron Gives $1M To Australian Fire Efforts

The San-Ramon based company has had a long history of helping California wildfire victims. Now its Australia branch is pitching in.

SAN RAMON, CA — Chevron Australia, a branch of the San-Ramon based company, pledged this week to donate $1 million to the Australian Red Cross, as brushfires rage on throughout Australia. The money will help the Red Cross dole out emergency grants to people who cannot return home, staff up recovery facilities, provide outreach and conduct other recovery efforts.

“Our thoughts are with the impacted families and emergency personnel fighting the fires and contributing to the recovery effort,” said Al Williams, Chevron Australia managing director, in a press release. “Chevron Australia is committed to supporting Australian communities, particularly in times of need.”

It's not the first time Chevron has donated to aid wildfire recovery efforts. The company, founded in California in 1879, donated $100,000 for California wildfire relief efforts in November 2019, a month after announcing a four-year partnership with the California Fire Foundation. Chevron agreed to underwrite $2 million of expenses for the foundation's Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency assistance initiative.

Chevron also donated $1 million to the American Red Cross in November 2018 for relief efforts in Northern and Southern California. At that time, the company said it had put more than $2.5 million toward California wildfire recovery work.
